Critical infrastructure security

Recent stories in the news have highlighted deliberate attacks on substations in North Carolina and Oregon. While the PUD has received no direct threats to its physical equipment, we wanted to assure our customers that we take events like this very seriously and have systems in place to prevent and respond to incidents if they did occur in our service territory.

The PUD has a security presence on our more than 100 substations and other critical infrastructure. We are monitoring critical infrastructure and will respond to any threats. We will also coordinate with local law enforcement, FBI and regional partners in light of an attack/threat.

PUD customers are our first line of defense. If anyone sees anything suspicious occurring near PUD power poles, substations or other critical infrastructure, they should first call 9-1-1 and then report it to the PUD at 425-783-1000. Customers can also visit wsfc.wa.gov/report to report suspicious activity of any kind.
